President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on May 7 issued a decree to dismiss Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine Yuriy Allerov, according to the presidential administration press service.

By another decree, Poroshenko appointed Mykola Balan National Guard's acting commander.

"According to Article 7 of the Law On the National Guard of Ukraine, an NGU commander is appointed and dismissed from office by President of Ukraine on the proposal of the Minister of Internal Affairs," the press service added.

Colonel General Allerov had been at the helm of the National Guard of Ukraine since December 30, 2015.

Lieutenant General Balan, 51, was appointed Deputy Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine on April 18, 2014.

From February 6, 2015 to December 31, 2015, he served as NGU Commander.
