Zelensky promises Ukrainian Canadians to defend Ukrainian language, keep course towards EU, NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has promised Ukrainian Canadians to defend the Ukrainian language, protect the sovereignty of Ukraine and maintain the course towards Europe and NATO.
"The Constitution stipulates that the only official language in Ukraine is Ukrainian. As President and guarantor of the Constitution, I will defend the Ukrainian language, our sovereignty and our course towards Europe and NATO," Zelensky said when meeting with the leaders of the Ukrainian World Congress and the Ukrainian Canadian Congress in Toronto, Canada, the presidential press service reported.
The Ukrainian president thanked Ukrainian Canadians for the comprehensive support of Ukraine, especially volunteer and social work since the beginning of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed how the Ukrainian authorities could create the best opportunities for Ukrainians living abroad to visit and work freely in Ukraine.
"I want to do everything for you not to come to Ukraine on a visit, but to come back home to Ukraine," the president added.
Zelensky urged the Ukrainian community of Canada to actively engage in the construction of a new democratic and rich Ukraine.
As UNIAN reported, Zelensky arrived in Canada on July 2 on a working visit. He has already met with Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland.
