U.S. President Donald Trump says he will try to visit Ukraine after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky invited him on September 25.

"I know that you have never been to Ukraine. And your predecessor – how to say it in English – did not find the time. So, can you give me your word that you will come to our great country?" Zelensky asked Trump during a bilateral meeting in New York City on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

In turn, Trump replied: "Well, I'm gonna try."

"I know a lot of people from Ukraine. They are great people," Trump said and recalled that he had owned the Miss Universe pageants many years ago, and once they had had a winner from Ukraine.

"Ukraine is a country with tremendous potential," he said.
