Yelchenko has become Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S. /ukraineun.org

That's according to a statement of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, posted on Twitter.

"We congratulate Volodymyr Yelchenko on his appointment by President Zelenskyy to become Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States," the statement says.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 19, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Volodymyr Yelchenko Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United States.

Prior to this, Yelchenko held the positions of Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations in New York and Ambassador of Ukraine in Jamaica (concurrently).

Yelchenko will replace Valeriy Chaly at the embassy's top post in Washington.

On July 19, Zelensky dismissed Chaly from the post of Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States.
