Despite Russia denying that it gives any support for the anti-Ukrainian militants in the Donbas, there is increasing and evidence of such involvement, according to the UN, Ukraine Today reports.

According to Simonovic, the UN is aware of the growing influx of [unofficial] fighters from Russia to the conflict area and of Russian regular troops being engaged in the fighting.

On May 21, the UN officials were allowed to interview two Russian military intelligence officers earlier captured in eastern Ukraine.

The detained soldiers claim they were on active military duty at the time of their capture, while the Kremlin disowned them stating that they had resigned from service at the beginning of 2015.
