Ukrainian Navy Day celebrated in Odesa for first time since Russia's seizure of Crimea

The commander of Ukraine's Navy said that several new vessels are to be put to service this year, as part of efforts to increase the Navy fleet to 30 warships by 2020.

Meanwhile, negotiations for Russia on return of Ukrainian warships seized in Crimea in 2014, during globally condemned annexation of the Ukrainian peninsula, saw little result so far.  “Little has come true of what they promised,” said the minister.

Ukraine’s military authorities face the challenge to revive the Navy following years of corruption and neglect under previous leadership, according to Ukraine Today.
