Revenge by former Yanukovych allies is possible: Ukraine's local elections secrets

18:30, 14 July 2015

Andriy Valchyshyn, political consultant, speaks with Ukraine Today drawing some rather gloomy prospects of Yanukovich entourage possibly re-emerging on the Ukrainian political scene in the upcoming local elections in October.

Valchyshyn voiced concerns over the drawbacks of the current law on local elections providing for half of the deputies to be elected through a party list, and another half – through a majority vote. Given, the party lists are being created in a way anything but transparent, this may let some of the most notorious Yanukovich allies get through to local governments.

Besides, the expert stressed that the voters mostly from eastern Ukraine are “significantly influenced by Russian propaganda", Ukraine Today reports.
