Exclusive interview with Ukraine's UN Ambassador: "Security Council needs to change its very philosophy"
Head of Ukraine's Permanent Mission to the United Nations Yuriy Sergeyev sits down with Ukraine Today saying Ukraine will abide by the UN Charter in seeking a resolution condemning Russia for annexation of Crimea in early 2014 and the ensuing invasion of Ukraine.
Supporting a French initiative to limit veto powers of the UN Security Council's permanent members, Sergeyev said: "The voluntary usage of veto is harming, has harmed and will harm the very core of the Security Council," Ukraine Today reports.
Sergeyev also stressed the need of the reform of the UN Security Council: “Not only enlargement of the permanent seats or non-permanent seats, but the very philosophy of the Security Council, the modalities how we work, they should be more transparent, they should be more inclusive and they should start working in preventive manner.
