Tymoshenko and Yanukovych already started presidential campaigns - Baloha
The President`s Chief of Staff noticed a tandem
President’s Chief of Staff Victor Baloha believes that at least two politicians are already working actively to gain advantages for the upcoming presidential election – these politicians are Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and opposition leader Victor Yanukovych.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, the Chief of Staff expressed this opinion having analyzed the recent developments and tendencies in the political life of the country.
Besides, according to V.Baloha, these two politicians often act in a “tactic tandem, despite they declared about their irreconcilable contradictions”.
The President’s Chief of Staff pointed out that Yulia Tymoshenko, during her foreign visits, in particular, to Russia and Poland, did not conceal her decisive ambition to struggle for the highest post in the state. Besides, Victor Yanukovych, the leader of the oppositional Party of Regions, has also been trying to “harvest the yield of political advantages”.
However, V.Baloha stresses, these two politicians should not cherish illusions about the active participation of the Russian establishment in the implementation of their presidential scenarios. First of all, Moscow always acts in its own interests; secondly, Yulia Tymoshenko and Victor Yanukovych become figures in somebody else’s game; and, thirdly, the President of Ukraine is elected by the Ukrainian nation, and not by directors from Moscow cabinets.
V.Baloha also pointed out that Yulia Tymoshenko and Victor Yanukovych share a common interest to achieve amendments to the Constitution, which would provide more weighty power resources and guaranteed new authorities.
“This strange combination of a part of the ruling coalition and the opposition has a very simple explanation: the post of President, cherished in dreams of Yulia Tymoshenko and Victor Yanukovych. The two political forces find comfort in the hope that together they will be able to achieve adoption of decisions that are advantageous for them”, V.Baloha stressed. However, he is confident that such a construction is a mere illusion.
