The faction of Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense calls on the faction of the Block of Yulia Tymoshenko to adopt a joint statement on the situation in Georgia, and to condemn the position of the Party of Regions that insists on recognizing the independence of the South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, OU-PSD faction leader Vyacheslav Kyrylenko claimed this in the chamber of parliament today. According to him, the two parliamentary factions may have different positions on economic or privatization issues, but “we cannot have two different stances on the future of Ukraine, on the foreign political values of Ukraine, and we can’t have two different views on the civilized choice of Ukraine”.
He noted that the statement of the Party of Regions leader Victor Yanukovych about the necessity of recognizing the independence of the South Ossetia and Abkhazia was “poorly thought-out”. According to V.Kyrylenko, this position is contrary to all norms of the international law.
He stressed that “nobody in the world has recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia except for Russia, Khamas, Hezbollah, and the Party of Regions”.
