BYT leader Yulia Tymoshenko claims that the government of Victor Yanukovych became illegitimate on 25 August.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, she claimed this to a press conference in Kyiv today, having publicized the address of the Block of Yulia Tymoshenko to President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and the Ukrainian nation.

She recalled that the Verkhovna Rada of the fourth convocation adopted a law, in line with which the decree on appointing a lawmaker as a state official becomes invalid in 20 days since its publication, if a lawmaker does not resign from the parliament.

Yulia Tymoshenko claimed that on 25 August it was 20 days since the appointment of Victor Yanukovych as the Prime Minister and the formation of the Cabinet of Ministers. Thus, the decrees of the government automatically become invalid.

She stressed that, in line with the Ukrainian Constitution, the decrees of the Cabinet of Ministers must be signed by the Prime Minister. However, as the period of Yanukovych’s resignation from the parliament expired, he has no right to sign the government’s decisions. “Since 25 August, the government’s decisions became illegal”, Yulia Tymoshenko said.
