The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has passed a decree on responsibility of President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko for the situation in the financial-credit sphere of Ukraine.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, 227 out of 248 MPs registered in the chamber voted for this.
The decree was supported by 154 MPs of the BYuT faction, 23 – Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense faction, and almost all members of the Lytvyn’s Bloc and Communist factions.
Only 4 members of the Party of Regions faction voted for the decree.
As UNIAN reported earlier, BYuT MP Svyatoslav Oliynyk disclosed to UNIAN that should the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopt the resolution declaring President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko responsible for the situation in the country’s financial sphere, it may become a prerequisite for the procedure of impeachment of the Head of State.
The lawmaker registered the respective draft resolution about the responsibility of the President in parliament.
S.Oliynyk stressed that the document stipulates making the President personally answerable, first of all, for the abrupt depreciation of the Ukrainian currency, “numerous speculations at the currency and mortgage markets, misuse in the sphere of commercial banks refinancing, an absolute absence of supervision over the activities of commercial banks, which significantly deteriorated the welfare of Ukrainian citizens”.
At the same time, S.Oliynyk admitted that it is a political document, though he did not rule out that in future it may become a prerequisite for impeachment of the President.
