The teams of Yulia Tymoshenko and Arseniy Yatseniuk will have to reach an agreement at the forthcoming presidential election in Ukraine to prevent a victory of Party of Regions’ leader Victor Yanukovych.
BYuT faction member Mykola Tomenko said this in an interview with TVi television.
“Tymoshenko can`t win without reaching an agreement with another competitor, namely Arseniy Yatseniuk, because they are in one electoral field. If they fight, let’s gather flowers and congratulations for Yanukovych as for a President, because it’s clear that a tough confrontation between Tymoshenko and Yatseniuk automatically means a calm victory of the Party of Regions. Because Victor Yanukovych does not have any powerful electoral rival”, M.Tomenko is confident.
At the same time, he expressed an opinion that the BYuT leader and the ex-Speaker of parliament should agree a format of the electoral campaign before it begins. “The general format of the teams’ strategy is very close,” M.Tomenko noted.
In his opinion, Yulia Tymoshenko and Arseniy Yatseniuk could voice certain agreements before the first and the second rounds of the elections, depending on who of them will occupy the second, and who – the third place on results of the first round.
“If Tymoshenko enters the second round and Arseniy Yatseniuk occupies the third place, she claims that he is a popular politician and it would be correct if he becomes a Prime Minister, and I will be the President. And if they swap places, then Yatseniuk says: we have a common strategic approach with Yulia Tymoshenko, of course, she should be a Prime Minister, and I will be the President”, M.Tomenko said.
According to M.Tomenko, there is no other logic to win the presidential elections, because all the other pretenders for the President’s post significantly lag behind Victor Yanukovych, Yulia Tymoshenko, and Arseniy Yatseniuk. “As soon as the three of leaders has outlined, we should model the presidential election around the three”, he stressed.
