Presidential Press Secretary Iryna Vannykova has said Victor Yushchenko does not understand why the Verkhovna Rada voted to suspend Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko from his position today, according to the President`s press-office.

“First law enforcement agencies should study journalists’ complaints against police and parliamentarians can say something after their conclusions,” she quoted the President as saying.

Mr. Yushchenko believes they had thus rejected the presumption of innocence principle.

The Head of State is pleased with Lutsenko’s performance and demands that MPs meticulously analyze the situation to make a substantiated, unbiased decision.
