Victor Yushchenko has told reporters in Rivne that political parties in Ukraine should formulate their position on the January 1/2006 constitutional changes, according to the President`s press-office.
The President said this issue was immensely important and expressed worries about the country’s inadequate balance of powers.
“If we do not build adequate balances,…., it can trigger very negative tendencies in the development of our society,” he opined.
Mr. Yushchenko said his decree to form a constitutional commission was aimed at initiating a discussion on further constitutional improvements, involving Ukraine’s political elite, “not only legislators but also government executives, non-parliamentary political parties, NGOs and mass media.”
When asked to make a comment on the decision of the Our Ukraine Bloc to initiate the repeal of the constitutional changes, the President said he did not influence their decisions.
