Accusations of corruption are nothing but political speculations?

President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko does not see any grounds for the dismissal of Defense Minister of Ukraine Yuri Yekhanurov, and claims that the allegations concerning corruption of the Minister are nothing but political speculations.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, the President claimed this at a press conference in Istanbul on Wednesday.

Victor Yushchenko stressed that the accusations of Yekhanurov are an attempt to destabilize the situation in Ukraine and destabilize the Ukrainian power system.

“I’m convinced that behind that there is nothing but political attempts to even more usurp the power, to create chaos, because it is the best environment to carry out the electoral campaign”, Victor Yushchenko said, adding that it is a revenge.

“I do not see in the activities of the Minister and in the work of the Ministry any evidence that would demand today the Minister`s dismissal”, the President emphasized.

Victor Yushchenko pointed out that, to the contrary, during the recent years, the Ministry has been showing professional work, and he, being the President, will do his best for the society and the government change their opinion about the Ukrainian army.

“Today the army needs all kinds of support. The attitude of the government to the defense policy, to the soldier, in my opinion, is a shameful attitude”, the President noted, adding that the accusations against Yuri Yekhanurov are a political PR and a political step aimed at destabilizing the situation.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 20, Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko claimed she would turn to President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko with a demand to dismiss Yuri Yekhanurov as Defense Minister of Ukraine.
