In a Freedom Day interview for Channel One, 1+1 and Inter, Victor Yushchenko has said freedom is the foremost achievement of the Orange Revolution, according to the President`s press-office.
“I am not going to lower the bar for what has been achieved. In fact, we have gained the most important thing, which one never thinks about when enjoying it, ...and this thing is freedom,” he said, adding that freedom and democracy in our country positively affected all aspects of life, including the economy.
The President said, in the past two years, Ukraine had been recognized as market economy, made much progress in its relations with the European Union, built closer ties between government and business, promoted freedom of speech and improved the social welfare.
Mr. Yushchenko said the courage and concord that reigned on the Maidan should help Ukraine and its political leaders better understand their objectives.
“I am convinced that the desire to achieve political stability and see the nation prosper and develop is what drives the political forces that represent Ukraine’s government today,” he said.
