PACE co-reporters on Ukraine Hanne Severinsen and Renate Wohlwend call on President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych to stop “battle operations”.

PACE co-reporters on Ukraine Hanne Severinsen and Renate Wohlwend call on President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych to stop “battle operations”.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, this is said in the informational remarks of the co-reporters issued on the results of their visit to Ukraine during October 9-12 of the year 2006.

“The continuing confrontation brings to nothing the hope for a political consensus in making the most important decisions to speed up pressing reforms in Ukraine”, reads the statement of the PACE co-reporters.

The document notes that the signing of the National Unity Pact in Ukraine was, on the whole, a positive attempt to support the “moment of reforms”, launched by Yuri Yekhanurov’s government, as well as the course towards the Euro-Atlantic integration.

However, in fact, this Pact just allowed the Party of Regions to come to power, without paying much attention to the provisions of the Pact, according to the PACE co-reporters.
