Victor Yushchenko signed a decree on Tuesday to approve Ukraine’s national security strategy, according to the President`s press-office.

The document stresses the need to promote democratic values, continue economic transformations and fulfill the country’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations. Its implementation will positively affect Ukraine’s national security policy and help harmonize practical actions to protect vital interests of individuals, society and the country against inner and outer threats.

The strategy defines the rule of law and supremacy of human and civil rights as the most fundamental principles of national security. One of its priorities is national unity.

It also analyzes different aspects of national security in the dynamically growing world of threats and challenges, and determines middle-term and long-term objectives and directions in the country’s security policy, being  a road map to formulate security plans and programs.
