Victor Yushchenko sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych on Monday to thank the government for supporting his proposals to increase spending on social issues, according to the President`s press-office.

The President said the government had enough resources to raise the minimum wage and the minimum pensions without increasing this year’s budget deficit..

“Having the sufficient domestic resource, we have no right to borrow money abroad to pay pensions and salaries. Today’s social spending must not become a burden for future generations,” he said.

Mr. Yushchenko suggested that the government and his secretariat work together to propose changes to the budget.
