President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko believes that a coalition may be formed only on a faction basis.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, he said this speaking at a meeting with chiefs of Oblast and District State Administrations today.

In the opinion of Victor Yushchenko, at present Ukraine is in a deep crisis, which continues to strengthen. According to him, the Constitution, rights and freedoms of citizens are neglected.

The President recalled about the coalition’s attempt to increase the number of the current parliamentary majority owing to personal entering of Our Ukraine and BYuT members. In particular, Victor Yushchenko said these processes remind him of the political processes that took place in 2004. “Something like that already happened in 2004”, he said.

The President emphasized that the Ukrainian Constitution stipulates forming a coalition on the basis of factions. According to Victor Yushchenko, there are no other means, or they will be illegitimate.

He noted that the recent parliamentary election was carried out on a proportional basis, which gives another reason to form the majority on a faction basis.
