Victor Yushchenko told a press conference on Thursday the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine should be a “full-fledged and functional body to formulate strategies affecting the country’s course, its foreign and home policy”, according to the President`s press-office.

The President said the Security Council “is the only institution whose meetings involve representatives of Ukraine’s government, parliament and law enforcement agencies.”

When asked to comment on his recent decision to appoint Gennadiy Moskal as deputy secretary of the Security Council, Yushchenko praised Moskal for his professional qualities and said he wanted to reinforce the Security Council with such professionals. He added there would probably be more such appointments.
