Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko says Germany’s support for Ukraine’s European integration aspirations is encouraging, according to Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"Your support is reassuring. I and the political party I head are making every effort to ensure Ukraine’s European integration," Yulia Tymoshenko said today during a meeting with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
Guido Westerwelle stressed that the EU is a union of democratic values. "The EU is not primarily an economic union, but a union of democratic values. There is only one way into the EU – via the bridge of democracy," he said, adding that he and the German government support Ukraine’s European aspirations.
Yulia Tymoshenko thanked Guido Westerwelle for supporting Ukraine’s European aspirations and for the dialogue on an Association Agreement.
During the meeting Yulia Tymoshenko and Guido Westerwelle discussed the political situation in Ukraine. "Democracy is being eroded in Ukraine. We will have to work hard to return our country to a natural democratic path of development," Yulia Tymoshenko said.
The German Foreign Minister noted that "every country has a government, but only democratic countries have an effective opposition."
"Just finished an official meeting with the Vice Chancellor of Germany. European leaders will make efforts to return Ukraine to democracy," Yulia Tymoshenko wrote on Twitter following the meeting.
