President Victor Yushchenko on Wednesday told reporters he would not rescind his decree to fire Prosecutor General Svyatoslav Piskun, adding that the prosecutor general’s office should be as politically neutral as possible, according to the President`s press-office. “I would like to say I have no intention to rescind my decree so that Svyatoslav Mykhailovych Piskun could be reinstated as top prosecutor,” he said.

Yushchenko described his decree as “impeccably legal" and said he would not accept any political demand on the issue.
