Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes that Ukraine’s return to a democratic path of development depends on the joint efforts of the Ukrainian opposition, civil society and international community, according to Official website of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"We must act decisively so as not to allow authoritarianism to develop in Ukraine and to return our country to democracy and a real European perspective," Yulia Tymoshenko said today during a meeting with PACE Monitoring Committee Rapporteur on Ukraine Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin, who expressed concern over the rollback of democracy in Ukraine.

According to Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin, of particular concern to PACE is the way changes were made to the Constitution, the quality of judicial reform that was adopted in great haste without waiting for and taking into account the conclusions of the Venice Commission, and local elections that did not meet European standards.

Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin urged the government of Ukraine to fulfill its promises to reform the judicial system and election law in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission and PACE.

"At the end of last year, in the PACE resolution on Ukraine we expressed our concern over the curtailing of democracy in Ukraine. Unfortunately, the situation has not improved," she said.
