Ukraine has 1.8 billion cubic meters of trees in reserve, Director of the State Forest Resources Agency Viktor Sivets told the press, according to KyivWeekly. “Every year Ukraine puts out 15 million cubic meters of lumber, meaning the country has a reserve for 300 years,” the agency quoted him as saying.

“We must emphasize that this is on condition that new trees are not planted in places were old trees were felled,” the head of the agency went on.

Sivets said over the 20 years of Ukraine’s independence new trees have been planted in forests that were felled and every year 20,000 hectares of new forest trees are planted. “This figure will grow with every year,” Sivets noted.
