At today’s media briefing, Iryna Gerashchenko, presidential press secretary, said Victor Yushchenko would meet with Yuriy Yekhanurov (Our Ukraine), Yulia Tymoshenko (BYuT), and Oleksandr Moroz (Socialist Party) “if they have a coalition agreement ready”, according to the President’s press-office.

“The President wants to see an elaborate document,” she stated.

Mrs. Gerashchenko said the Head of State was worried that unconstructive ambitions of some politicians hindered the coalition talks. He insists that they should learn to respect their voters and authorities and stop trying to involve him in their contradictions and arguments. Mr. Yushchenko also believes it is inexpedient to discuss candidates for posts that only the President is empowered to appoint.

Nevertheless, the Head of State is optimistic about the future of the coalition and hopes to meet the three leaders next week.  He also thinks they will compromise and reunite by the end of May and promises to cooperate with all the parties in the Verkhovna Rada.
