Spain reminds Yanukovych about presumption of innocence

Spanish Secretary of State for the European Union Diego López Garrido stated about “deep anxiety” of the Spanish government concerning the arrest of former Prime Minister of Ukraine, leader of the Ukrainian opposition Yulia Tymoshenko and expressed a hope that “she will be released as soon as possible”.

 Diego López Garrido said this in the statement to EFE Spanish New Agency.

The State Secretary assured that “not touching the point of issue that should be clarified in courts”, detention of Yulia Tymoshenko till the end of the trial is “disproportionate”.

According to opinion of Diego López Garrido, pending the completion of consideration of the case “presumption of innocence remains valid” for Ukrainian former Prime Minister.
