Eugenia Carr, daughter of opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, and Hryhoriy Nemyria, deputy head of the Batkivshchyna Party and former vice prime minister of Ukraine, met today in Strasbourg, France, with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

During the meeting they discussed the politically motivated persecution of the opposition and human rights violations, in particular the trials of opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko and former members of her government, Yuriy Lutsenko and Valeriy Ivashchenko. Thomas Hammarberg stressed that during his visit to Ukraine in late September he obtained sufficient evidence of this. He also expressed his concerns about the health and unfair arrest of Ukrainian political prisoners.

Thomas Hammarberg said that he will do everything he can on his level for a positive and speedy resolution to the current situation.
