John Dalhuisen, Europe and Central Asia Deputy Program Director of Amnesty International, has said that Yulia Tymoshenko’s conviction is an attempt to establish criminal liability for political decisions, which contradicts international law, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"The prosecution against Yulia Tymoshenko is politically motivated. The charges against her are not internationally recognizable offenses, they are attempts to criminalize decisions that she made in the course of her work," - said John Dalhuisen.

He believes that political decisions should be punished by voters, not through courts. "The trial against Yulia Tymoshenko highlights systemic problems within the justice system in Ukraine, and the conduct of this trial casts doubt over the independence of the judiciary," he said.

"Yulia Tymoshenko must be released and all charges against her must be dropped," he added.
