EU Committee of the Regions VP: persecution of Yulia Tymoshenko is unacceptable

Vice President of the EU Committee of the Regions Luc Van Den Brande has said that the political persecution of the leader of the largest opposition party in Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko, is unacceptable, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

During a session of the Venice Commission, Luc Van Den Brande recalled that High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said that Yulia Tymoshenko and other opposition politicians must be released immediately and have full rights to participate in elections.

Luc Van Den Brande also stressed that changes to the electoral system that ignore the opinions of the opposition and civil society are unacceptable.
