European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek has wished Yulia Tymoshenko courage and strength, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
“Yulia, I wish you courage and strength in this difficult moment. You should not be in prison,” Buzek wrote on his Facebook page.
The president of the European Parliament also expressed concern over Yulia Tymoshenko’s deteriorating health. “Sadly there is not much to celebrate neither for her nor for Ukraine. I have received direct confirmations on the deterioration of her state of health. Authorities should allow her to receive all the necessary medical treatments,” he stressed.
Buzek believes recent events in Ukraine show that processes in the county are not democratic. “The timing, intensity and number of politically motivated trials she is facing shed light on the lack of independence of the Ukrainian judiciary and on the partisanship of Ukraine’s political elite. Politics should be a battle of ideas, not one of legal proceedings,” he said
“How can we expect to have a sincere political dialogue between the EU and Ukraine, if Ukraine cannot have dialogue within itself?” he added.
