Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko is outraged that the government is spreading disinformation about the conditions in which she is being held in the Lukyanivka jail and demands that the prison administration refute the information, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
“I am utterly outraged over the immoral video taken of me by the SBU on December 14, 2011, in a cell of the jail’s medical unit. I demand that you publicly refute the false information that was presented in the video made by unknown persons with a hidden video camera. You know very well that on December 14, accompanied by officials, SBU officers entered the jail with a film crew and began to film me despite my objections. They took advantage of the fact that I am bedridden and couldn`t avoid them. It looked like an execution,” Yulia Tymoshenko wrote in a letter to the acting head of the Kyiv detention facility, Y. Dombrovsky, that was presented by lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko at a press conference today.
The former prime minister said the conditions in cell №242 are not at all what was shown in the footage. “This was a completely different cell. You know very well that there were three of us in cell 242, which is 15 square meters, without a glass window, without hot, and at times, cold water, with a concrete floor, shelves and stools of crude boards, with a toilet behind a partition. Why are you deceiving people with plasma TVs, showers and tiled mirrors?” wrote Yulia Tymoshenko.
Yulia Tymoshenko also said she categorically refused special treatment in jail. “I believe it’s immoral to be in a specially renovated call while other prisoners are in inhumane cells and forced to take turns sleeping on the floor due to severe overcrowding in the jail. I ask that after medical treatment I be moved to a regular cell like the other prisoners, so that during visits by European and international representatives they can see not a fake, glamorous show, but true torture, inhumane treatment of prisoners worse than animals, even before they are found guilty by the court,” she said.
Yulia Tymoshenko is convinced President Yanukovych instructed the SBU to make the video in order to discredit her. “I demand an official clarification of this untrue and misleading information that cell 242, with the interior that was shown on TV, is the cell in which I was held and will be held. If some special repairs were made to cell 242 after I was moved to the prison unit, then please, offer this cell to the resident of Mezhyhirya, not me. I don’t need a renovated prison cell,” she concluded.
