A New York man has been sentenced to 200 years to life for the murder of four people during a 24-hour crime spree in 2011 that spanned two city boroughs, the Kings County District Attorney`s Office announced Wednesday, according to CNN.
Maksim Gelman, 24, received the maximum sentence for each of his crimes committed on February 11 and 12, 2011. Judge Vincent Del Guidice handed down a 25-to-life sentence for each of the four murder counts. The judge also imposed maximum sentences for Gelman`s other crimes, including two attempted murders, two counts of first and second degree robbery and second degree assault.
"While there will never be justice for the victims and their families, the judge sent a strong message by imposing consecutive sentences and ensuring that he will never see the light of day," said District Attorney Charles J. Hynes.
As Gelman was ushered out, he shouted angrily at the judge.
Gelman has yet to be sentenced for a count of attempted murder he admitted to on Tuesday. Gelman pleaded guilty to slashing and stabbing a Manhattan subway passenger in the early hours of February 12, according to New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.
Gelman said he stabbed and killed his stepfather in Brooklyn the morning of February 11 after an argument regarding the use of his mother`s car. He said he then killed a female acquaintance and her mother before stealing a car and running into an elderly man, who was fatally injured.
He also admitted to slashing two other individuals before attacking the man on the subway.
Gelman was arrested on February 12 at a Times Square subway station.
His sentence for the additional attempted murder will be issued on February 15, and is expected to run consecutively to the other terms.
