Ukraine boosts steel output by 5.7 pct in 2011

Ukraine has boosted its production of crude steel by 5.7 percent to 35.3 million tons in 2011, local media said Monday, referring to the latest report provided by the World Steel Association (WSA), according to Xinhua.

Ukraine is the world`s eighth largest steel producer, according to the report.

The world`s crude steel production reached 1.527 billion tones in 2011, increasing by 6.8 percent year on year, the report said.

China was the world`s top steel maker in 2011, with a production of 695.5 million tons.

Ukraine produced 33.5 million tons of steel in 2010, a 12.4 percent increase from 2009.
