It is unacceptable to hold elections in Ukraine without the participation of opposition leaders, particularly Yulia Tymoshenko, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg has said, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"It is unacceptable to hold democratic elections without the participation of the leader of the largest opposition party of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko and other opposition members," Thomas Hammarberg said during a meeting today with Yevgenia Tymoshenko and Hryhoriy Nemyria.
During the meeting, Yevgenia Tymoshenko and Hryhoriy Nemyria informed the commissioner about the situation in Ukraine, persecution of the opposition by Yanukovych’s regime, and violations of fundamental rights and democratic procedures by the current government.
Yevgenia Tymoshenko and Hryhoriy Nemyria also met today with the chairman of the PACE Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights Christopher Chope.
