Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Troy Lulashnyk says the three Canadian physicians that assessed the conditions of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in the Kachanivska penal colony are highly qualified professionals, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"While I cannot comment on the medical findings of either the Canadian or German doctors due to doctor-patient confidentiality, I can say that the three members of the Canadian medical team are upstanding, highly qualified and experienced medical practitioners. They conducted their examination of Ms Tymoshenko upholding the highest medical standards, especially with respect to their objectivity and ethics," Ambassador Lulashnyk said in a statement on the Canadian Embassy’s website.
According to him, the Canadian medical team’s observations, shared with the medical commission and with the permission of Yulia Tymoshenko, were in no way influenced by any external factors. "Reports to the contrary are false," he stressed.
"Canada has repeatedly expressed its strong support and commitment to this humanitarian mission. We were pleased that the three Canadian doctors, joined by two German physicians, were able to carry out an independent medical assessment of Ms. Tymoshenko. The fields of expertise of the Canadian doctors complemented the specializations of the German physicians," he said.
Ambassador Lulashnyk thanked the three Canadian physicians on behalf of the Government of Canada . "Canada believes that Ms. Tymoshenko’s health should remain the primary focus of all involved," he said.
