Canadian physician Dr. Peter Kujtan, who was part of the medical team that traveled to Ukraine to evaluate Yulia Tymoshenko`s health, says the Ukrainian authorities would not allow the foreign doctors to perform analysis necessary to establish a clear diagnosis, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Even though the Canadian Team had point of care testing equipment which could produce results immediately, the Ukrainian authorities refused to allow its use, stating that we would be breaking several laws of the land and could face prosecution," Dr. Kujtan said in a statement quoted by RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service.

In his opinion, Yulia Tymoshenko requires confidential blood and toxicology testing. "Mrs. Tymoshenko was in full agreement and requested confidential and independent testing," he stressed, adding that "the authorities also prevented the collection of any specimens vital for analysis."

He said the physicians emphasized to the authorities that the testing items were listed on the original manifest.

"Any reports that Yulia Tymoshenko refused independent testing are false. I believe that this lady is ill and in constant pain and requires toxicology and other laboratory testing. I also expressed concerns about injected substances she received that are banned in Canada," said the Canadian physician.
