The parliamentary session of 4 September is another attempt to destabilize Ukraine, President Victor Yushchenko told reporters on Tuesday, according to the President`s press-office.
“I deeply condemn the organizers of this gathering and I would like to emphasize that the Ukrainian people expect their legislative body to work in a legitimate manner and demonstrate respect for laws and the constitution,” he said.
Yushchenko said the Verkhovna Rada had no authorities and that its decisions were thus illegal. “Nothing has changed after such a meeting of the people’s deputies in the Verkhovna Rada.”
The president said the organizers of the session had wanted to show their disrespect for the law and ignore plans to repeal legislative immunity and privileges. “Their ironic vote to repeal immunity shows that those who took part in this gathering today have no political goodwill to make everybody equal before the law.”
Yushchenko said he was “sad” the coalition deputies “see no need to repeal their privileges and preferences” and that Ukraine’s prime minister had supported them.
