Oleksandr Turchynov, the first deputy head of the Batkivshchya Party, believes the Kharkiv trial in the criminal case against Yulia Tymoshenko involving the activities of United Energy Systems of Ukraine (UESU) will become another judicial farce, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko. "The Kyivsky District Court of Kharkiv is fundamentally no different from the Pechersk Court. It will be more blasphemy, more abuse of the Constitution and law. These UESU cases, which were closed by two chambers of the Supreme Court, were fabricated even more cynically," said Oleksandr Turchynov.
In turn, lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko stressed that the Ukrainian government is going after its main opponent, Yulia Tymoshenko, in order to clear the political field. "Unfortunately, in Ukraine, in the case of Tymoshenko, the law doesn’t apply in major as well as minor issues - when is comes to review and the timing of this case. But most importantly, there is no evidence of Tymoshenko’s guilt in the case file. It’s simple propaganda that has nothing to do with legal issues," he said.
"In 1997-1998 Tymoshenko was a member of parliament and didn’t give anyone any verbal orders. These is no evidence of verbal orders. On the contrary, the persons they allegedly consider accomplices in the crime weren’t even questioned in the case. This proves one thing: the government through the hands of the Prosecutor General’s Office wants to add 12 years to the existing 7. There was no crime in Yulia Tymoshenko’s actions. This issue was investigated by the Prosecutor General and all the courts, including two chambers of the Supreme Court. The case against Tymoshenko was closed justifiably by appropriate officials in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure because there was nothing criminal in her actions," stressed Serhiy Vlasenko.
