Yanukovych’s European partners express support for Yulia Tymoshenko
Eugenia Tymoshenko, daughter of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and Hryhoriy Nemyria, the deputy head of the Batkivshchyna Party, met today with Hannes Swoboda, the head of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko. Eugenia Tymoshenko and Hryhoriy Nemyria updated the MEP on the situation involving Yulia Tymoshenko and other political prisoners in Ukraine, as well as the health of the ex-premier.
In his turn, Hannes Swoboda stressed that the European social democrats hold a principled position when human rights and democratic principles are violated. "We always stand on the side of those who defend these values," he said.
Hannes Swoboda repeated his recent statement regarding the possible termination of the memorandum of cooperation between the Group of Socialists and Democrats and Viktor Yanukovych’s Party of Regions.
At the end of the meeting, the MEP asked Eugenia to convey his support and solidarity to Yulia Tymoshenko.
