Eugenia Tymoshenko, daughter of former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, says the refusal of her mother’s request for a short-term release following the death of her father-in-law, Hennadiy Tymoshenko, is unjustified and cynical, according to the Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Even a family tragedy is being used by the authorities to get back at my mother. There is no other way to explain it," said Eugenia Tymoshenko.

The ex-premier’s daughter recalled that Yulia Tymoshenko sent a request to the head of the Kachanivska prison and the prosecutor for the Kharkiv oblast requesting permission for an urgent leave on May 25 due to exceptional circumstances. "The penitentiary service continues to manipulate the law in its favor, explaining that my grandfather’s funeral isn’t grounds for release, and saying that they granted her an exception and allowed her to express her condolences to our family over the phone, even though this right is guaranteed by law," she said.

Eugenia Tymoshenko also said her mother has filed a second application with the Kharkiv oblast prosecutor requesting permission for a short visit outside the prison in order to support her husband Oleksandr`s family after his father’s death. "This right is provided under Article 111 of the Criminal Execution Code of Ukraine. The law guarantees every prisoner, and not just my mother, the opportunity to leave the prison for no more than seven days in such exceptional circumstances as the death of a loved one," she said.

Yulia Tymoshenko’s daughter thanked everyone who expressed their support and condolences to her family.
