Information about Yulia Tymoshenko’s health should be provided only by doctors from the Charite clinic that have been supervising the ex-premier’s treatment, says lawyer Serhiy Vlasenko, according to Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"Unknown medical commissions can’t determine the state of Yulia Tymoshenko’s health. Information about the ex-premier`s real condition can only be given by experts who organize her treatment – specialists from the Charite clinic. We don’t understand what a medical commission, formed on orders from the presidential administration, is and what relation it has to information about her health and progress of treatment," said Serhiy Vlasenko.

The lawyer underlined that Yulia Tymoshenko`s presence at the cassation hearing isn`t mandatory. "The code of criminal procedure does not provide for mandatory participation," he said.

Serhiy Vlasenko also noted that Yulia Tymoshenko wrote a personal statement asking that her appeal be heard in her absence, a copy of which was sent to the High Specialized Court and Prosecutor General`s Office.

The ex-premier’s lawyer highlighted the political nature of this case. "We know that the government’s main goal is to drag out the appeals process. Yanukovych’s regime is creating artificial barriers so that the case isn’t considered by the European Court of Human Rights, because they know that the case against Yulia Tymoshenko was fabricated and that the European court will make a fair ruling," he said.

On May 15 the High Specialized Court for Civil and Criminal Cases postponed until June 26 the hearing of Yulia Tymoshenko’s appeal of her conviction in the so-called "gas case". She is being represented by lawyer Oleksandr Plakhotnyuk.
