One pilot dies in light plane crash in Ukraine

A pilot was killed in a light plane crash near Pavlograd in central Ukraine's Dnepropetrovsk region, the country's emergency ministry said on Thursday, according to Xinhua.

The sport aircraft crashed into a sunflower field about one kilometer south of a local highway at 5:30 p.m. local time (GMT 1530) on Wednesday, and the pilot onboard died instantly, the ministry said in a report.

According to the preliminary data, the plane, which was not registered, took off from a makeshift landing strip. The flying has not been reported to air control authorities.

The cause of the crash has so far remained unclear. An investigation is underway.
