The decision of the President on pardon of Lutsenko should be considered in a context of taking measures on integration of Ukraine to the EU, the Foreign Ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine noted that the decision of President of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych on the pardon of ex Interior Minister of Ukraine Yuri Lutsenko should be considered in a wide context of carrying out of urgent measures on integration of Ukraine to the EU.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, acting director of Information Policy Department of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine Yevgeniy Perebiynis said this at press conference.
According to his words, the decision is made within a framework of realization of policy of the head of the state concerning decriminalization and humanization of legislation of Ukraine, directed to its matching with European standards on protection of rights and freedoms of a person.
Y. Perebiynis reminded that the European institutions highly appreciated signing by the President of Ukraine the decree on pardon of 6 convicts, including former governmental officials Yuri Lutsenko and Georgiy Filipchuk.
