The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement can not be signed if a solution is not found to the case of Ukrainian ex-Premier Yulia Tymoshenko, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said, according to official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.

"If the case of Yulia Tymoshenko is not resolved, the association agreement can not be signed," Angela Merkel said in Berlin during a joint press conference with Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip.

She said Ukraine must meet a number of conditions that "involve the rule of law in general, problems with human rights, civil liberties as a whole and democratic procedures."

"There are a number of problems with Ukraine. The topic of Yulia Tymoshenko is not the only issue. We want Ukraine to move closer to the European Union. This is the meaning of our Eastern Partnership. Therefore, we will continue to encourage Ukraine to meet the necessary requirements," Angela Merkel stressed.
