President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens says Yulia Tymoshenko has played a key role in uniting the opposition forces in Ukraine, according to Official web site of Yulia Tymoshenko.
"It is important today to pay a special tribute to your leader Yulia Tymoshenko. Even in prison she has remained a true leader of democrats who inspires, motivates and who is always with you in her thoughts and in her heart. I admire the fact that in this extremely difficult time of her life she still finds the strength and wisdom to lead this unification process together with Arseniy Yatsenyuk," Wilfried Martens said in his address to the uniting congress of the united opposition.
He stressed that the EPP strongly believes in the European future of Ukraine. "Unfortunately, the current government and President Yanukovych have not yet given us confidence that they support European values. Among the strongest examples are political persecutions and political prisoners. However, I personally believe that Ukraine can not lose its chance to sign the Association Agreement and that the leadership of the country will meet the EU conditions before the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius and demonstrate a wisdom which will open up a European perspective for Ukraine," said the EPP president.
The uniting congress of the united opposition is taking place today on St. Michael’s Square in Kyiv.
