Number of internally displaced people in Ukraine hits 400,000
The total number of internally displaced persons in Ukraine is 399,964 people, Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska said at a press conference on Friday.
Ukraine has only about 1,210 accommodation facilities to house people who have fled the Donbas and Crimea, she said.
"According to the Emergency Services, the number of immigrants as of today is about 400 thousand people, 399,964 people to be exact,” Lutkovska told UNIAN.
“It’s striking that the number of such people is increasing every day. In particular, in just one day their number increases by about 10,400 people," she said.
Lutkovskaya also said it was necessary for the current Ukrainian parliament to approve legislation to protect the rights of internally displaced persons.
