Donetsk rocked by huge explosion
The city of Donetsk in the east Ukraine conflict zone was rocked by a massive explosion on Monday when a munitions factory took a rocket or shell hit, sources in the city say.
The explosion occurred around noon near a building in Dontsk where Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Andrei Purgin was holding a meeting, says Russian news source RIA Novosti.
Although the explosion blew out all the windows in the building, there were no casualties, according to preliminary data. However, the meeting had to be stopped.
Pro-Russian militants in the city said the explosion had been caused by a Tochka-U missile, the BBC reported.
Social networks say that the explosion was so powerful that it could be heard nearly in all city districts. As reported earlier, a shell also hit the roof of Donbas Arena Stadium. At the moment, clouds of smoke are rising from the stadium.
There are reports that the stadium was also damaged by the shockwave from the explosion at the munitions plant.
