Seven Ukrainian soldiers killed, 11 wounded in Donbas conflict zone
Seven Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 11 wounded in fighting in the Donbas conflict zone over the past 24 hours, National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said on Thursday.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kyiv, Lysenko said Ukrainian forces had engaged an insurgent sabotage group near the village of Petrovskoye in Volnovakha district in Donetsk region.
"Some of the saboteurs were destroyed at the scene of battle, while the others retreated,” Lysenko said.
“During this battle three of our soldiers were killed and one was wounded," he added.
Lysenko also said another Ukrainian army column clashed with militants in the north of the conflict zone on the right bank of the Seversky Donets River.
"Terrorist activity is at present concentrated in the towns near the Krimskoye and Sokolniki Novoaydarsky districts," he said.
In addition, Lysenko said that in this area the militants had twice fired mortars at Ukrainian positions, and a Ukrainian checkpoint near Krimskoye had come under fire from mortars seven times.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on Wednesday one Ukrainian soldier was wounded in the Donbas conflict zone.
